This skill supports people to get ready for major change. Change can be difficult, complex, and fraught with the unexpected. It is at times difficult to manage the shadow side of the events that inevitably emerge. There are skeletons in the closet, old resentments among team members from previous events, and fears about the uncertainty of an ill-defined kaleidoscopic future. The real obstacles to change must be ferreted out and confronted head-on. What’s in it for you? Individuals who are proficient in readiness-checking are able to: Act as a change agent to remove barriers to positive change. Gain credibility as a leader when they are able to help create esprit de corps on the leadership team. Be trusted as a knowledgeable agent of change. Facilitate the buy-in of their team to commit to a reasonable challenge for changes that are agreed upon as needed. Be trusted and promoted if they can lead at this level.
